At just 16, Jai was diagnosed with a rare form of testicular cancer called rhabdomyosarcoma. After extensive chemotherapy, he went into remission - only for the cancer to return when he was 21. He fought it, and won, a second time. Jai came out of that fight healthier, and determined to make the most of every day in front of him.
At 23, Jai suffered a burst aneurysm on the brain. He passed away a few days later, surrounded by the people who loved him most.
THE FIRST DROP
In the months that followed, Jai's mum went looking for something to do with her hands, and her heart. She pulled together two of Jai's favourite things - chilli and bourbon - and out of that came our very first sauce.
It wasn't made to sell. It was made to bring people back to the table. Because that's what food has always done in our family - it's never just about the meal. It's the smell of something on the barbecue or a roast dinner on a Sunday afternoon, the extra chair pulled up for whoever's dropped by, the arguing over who's turn it is on the tongs, the stories that get louder the longer everyone stays. Jai was always right in the middle of that. Every bottle of Jai's Drop is an invitation to gather the way we always have around him - and to keep making those memories, together.
